When I'm sketching our model, I'm always looking for an interesting angle and something nice with the light.
In a room full of other artists, it's not always easy to find the best spot to park myself and my supplies and be ready to draw. But I was pleased to be in a good position for these poses and give them careful attention.

These are a few longer charcoal and chalk studies from Open Studio.
I particularly liked the simplicity of the model's slim figure in the silky dress, and the impressions and shadows of the dress straps.

This month I picked "Striped socks" for our subject.
One of the goals for the Challenge is to have fun and I think we definitely accomplished that.

As with most of our chosen Challenge subjects, there are a variety of ideas that get sorted through. This is the one that finally suggested itself to me, even though I had several previous plans.

So many clever and fun ideas that suggest even more ideas for striped sock paintings.
Maybe we'll do some more!

Our artists' salon models change from time to time and keep us on our toes. Although I have my favorites, each one offers unique opportunities to learn something new or see in a fresh light. Like the landscape out my window, it is always changing.
