Welcome to my Art Blog! I paint or draw most weekdays and sometimes finish a painting a day. I fondly call them my "Postcards from Paradise" because it's such a beautiful place the Lord made here for us.

SOLD

It's good to be finished with the poster art. I can't show it here just yet even though I'd like to. The public unveiling is scheduled for July 14, so please stay tuned to see it in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, I'm getting back into the groove for the little daily paintings. I also have a couple of other pieces I'm working on that probably won't be finished for another couple of weeks. They are not nearly as large as the poster piece, but they're bigger than the minis like this one.

Poster Artist This Year for The Festival in Sandpoint

You've probably noticed I haven't been posting much in the way of paintings in past couple of months. I hope you've noticed and have missed me!

The art for the Festival is coming along. I had this idea in my head and did several studies to see how I could work out a plan. Except for attending the OPA show and activities last week, I've pretty much been at my easel working on the poster art for weeks and weeks. It is a huge responsibility and I want it to be wonderful. It's an honor to be chosen, but I've given up a lot to do this. The "dailies" have slowed to a trickle, and you should see the weeds in my garden!

Thank you for your continued encouragement and support of my work. You can see my daily paintings by category at

Moses Botkin Challenge for June: Self-Portrait

Vicki named the Challenge this month. I think every one of us groaned when we got the word last month that we'd be painting our own visage this time.

After I got back from the OPA conference this week, there were numerous things vying for my attention, including my big project for the poster art.
But, rather than blowing off the Challenge, I grabbed my palette with leftover paint and scrubbed in this little quick study. Besides the mere challenge of working after being so spent from my other endeavors lately, this was painted in a dark room, lit only by a desk light.

I figure it's good practice for down the road when my eyesight grows dimmer.

Even though we all complained about this Challenge, it was good. I really like the paintings, too.

Oil Painters of America Show

The Oil Painters of America National Show is amazing. If you missed the opening last night, I hope you can get by and see the art in person. Devin Galleries in Coeur d'Alene is hosting the show through July 9. This exhibit is the 20th anniversary show... a big deal.

My piece in the exhibit, "Dancer in Red Slip" sold to a happy collector which made me very happy.

It's been really nice to meet many of the artists in person whose work is at the gallery. The paintings are all so inspiring and I'm glad I live close enough to attend the show and activities.

Oil Painters of America National Exhibition

This year, the national show is being held not far from me, so I'm participating in a number of the activities and demos. My painting "Dancer in Red Slip" will hang in the exhibit.

The show opens this Friday evening at Devin Galleries in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. You can also see the paintings, including my work, online and find more info about the Oil Painters of America Exhibition. This is a banner year, the 20th show, and respected artists from all over the country will be there and have their work shown. It is a distinct honor for me to have my work represented with some of the biggest and brightest stars in the world of representational art.

Spring drama is not the name of our local high school play series but rather the show the Lord puts on when evening light meets a little weather.
